Kodi on Xbox
Kodi originally started life on the Xbox as a homebrew media player in 2002, and since then has grown to over 50 million downloads and 18 major new versions.
Kodi Alpha was released on the Xbox One in January 2018 and has grown to include all the functions you can expect from Kodi on an Android player or a home computer.
Installing Kodi on Xbox will also help you avoid the costs involved with buying a separate Android player.
How to Install Kodi on Xbox One
With the release of Kodi 18 Leia, Kodi once again returned as a native stand-alone application on the Xbox One S and Xbox One X.
Meaning you no longer need to rely on screen mirroring. There are two simple plays for you to install Kodi on Xbox.

Windows 10 allows you to remotely connect your PC to your Xbox, prior to carrying out this method you need to log into your Xbox account on your PC.
- From your PC open the “Microsoft Store” from the Start Menu
- On the store use the search bar and type in “Kodi”

- Click on the button that indicates you to “Install on Xbox One”
- Once downloaded, Kodi will be ready to go when you power up your Xbox
Differences Between Kodi on Xbox and Other Devices
When Leia initially hit Xbox in 2018 it was still in Alpha version, due to the nature of the legacy code even now there are some limitations for Kodi on Xbox.
- Limited access to the Music and Video libraries
- Network support is limited to only NFS:// shares, meaning that if possible, you should have a media file linked to your Xbox from your Window’s computer
- You are unable to start a Blue Ray disc drive directly from Kodi, though you are now able to access any attached storage drives linked to your Xbox

Best Build for Kodi on Xbox
Previously if you had an Amazon Firestick you may have found yourself severely limited by the Builds that you could install. They would need to be lightweight and ideally less than 250MB in size.
With the Xbox One’s awesome processing power, you can remove any limitations. With its 8GB of 2133 MHz DDR3 Ram and 32MB of fast ESRAM you can download anything you want.
Builds are a great way to get started on Kodi, like a prebuilt installation like Windows on your PC. Instead of finding all the best software and addons let someone else do it for you.
Here are the 5 best builds for Xbox, and you can find even more in our selection of 30 best builds for Kodi.
- Duffman Build
Duffman is a 500MB+ build which we wouldn’t normally recommend for any Android device unless it was a Nvidia Shield. Luckily with the Xbox we have the power to give this awesome build as much free reign as possible. Unlike any other builds Duffman was created specifically with the Xbox in mind.
Be patient as due to its size it can take up to 30 minutes to install, build-out menus and update itself. You will get all the best addons here including Genesis Reborn, Maverick TV, Seren, Placenta, YouTube and many more.
Due to its size, there are heaps of content and streams for you to choose from. Choose from Movies, TV Shows, Music, Kids, Anime, 4K UHD, Sports, TNT Preview, SD Wizard and Addons
- No Limits Magic Build
No Limits Magic Build has maintained its popularity for years it continues to stay up to date with the best addons on offer and it’s interface. The range of add ons means there isn’t really a section of entertainment you can’t access. No Limits Magic is one of the most popular builds on Kodi.
You will find the UI easy to use, and each category will link you to the best addons in class for Movies, TV Shows and more.
We love 1Amazing because it’s just so gorgeous to look at. One of the only builds that use Google Material Designs which has helped to put together some of the best-looking websites online. The interface is very slick and will remind users of the simplicity of Netflix.
One of the bigger builds coming in at 400MB because you get to enjoy over 40 addons with endless content for you. Everything from Seren to BBC iPlayer.
- Titanium Build
Titanium gives No Limits Magic a run for its money as one of the most popular and best Kodi builds for new users to start off with. Reason being that Titanium is laid out in a very simple way, without over the top skins. Meaning its easy to navigate and explore.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of settings and content on offer if you have never used Kodi before.
They have a great range of addons from Sports Devil to Gaia, and you can be sure that each addon will be best in class, with old defunct addons removed and new ones added regularly.
Also, a good choice for Spanish speakers, with an alternative build available in that language.
- Misfit Mods
We would recommend the Misfit Mods Lite Build for anything apart from the Xbox One, but with its great processing power you can go for the enormous 500MB+ Misfit Mods Build which has an awesome interface and an unparalleled number of addons like Duffman.
A great Build for somebody who really wants to have every possible best addon at their fingertips in one place.
