What is a Cache?

You’re probably most familiar with the cache on your web browser. Do you ever notice when your browser loads your favorite websites much faster than a new website you have never been to?

That’s a cache. Basically, the website URL, images, and code are stored in a short-term memory cache, meaning it can be accessed and loaded much faster next time you visit.

Everything you visit and do online and on Kodi is cached. So, say you watched “Avengers: Endgame”, the file is cached to load faster next time.

All the file isn’t stored but just enough to get it started and loaded quickly.

 

The Different Type of Cache Files?

There are 4 different types of cache files on Kodi:

 

Image

Every time a web scraper fetches new links to content, it shows that link using fan art. A clickable image showing you what the title is. These images are compressed and cached each time, making the home screen loading much faster on an add-on.

 

Temp Files

This is a cache of all your old files, like zip files and older versions of add ons which have been updated. A lot of these files are really trash because they are no longer being used.

 

Video

Every video you play caches the first few seconds of the file. This means next time when you start it, you won’t see the whirling streaming button of doom. By caching the start of the video, it can start while new data is being streamed in the background.

 

Application/Add on

Every time you use an add-on or application, it caches what you do, setting and preferences in time-stamped files. Also means these settings don’t need to be changed every time you open the application. The same goes for Android applications

 

Why Do I Need to Clear Cache Regularly?

As you can imagine from the above, considering the amount of video you watch, titles you browse before choosing and add on you open and close, the data used by these cache files quickly pile up.

Depending on the size of your device this may not matter in the beginning, but imperceptibly over time Kodi will begin to run slower.

This cache file which is accessed each time, become bigger with more folder and more time needed to navigate and find the right file.

Why Am I Getting This Error?

Understanding why you get an error is like asking how long a piece of string is.

Generally, errors in Kodi tend to come from missing files which should in an add on that you are installing. Corrupted files are common when dealing with Kodi add ons, which is why we always advise that you download them from their official website and sources.

Also, sometimes files from a new add on may have the same name as another script running on Kodi. This creates a conflict and an error.

How Can I Check My Error Log?

You can check your error log using an official Kodi add on called Log Viewer, which you can install in a few simple steps:

7. Install and run the Log Viewer add on

Download Raw Maintenance using the following steps:

1. Start on the Kodi Home Screen
2. Go to setting and File Manager
3. Add source and add none, enter the following URL in the pop-up bar: http://solved.no-issue.is/
4. Name the file and then go back to home, setting and install from zip file. Wait for the file to unzip
5. Finally install the add on from repository
6. Return to the home screen and run Raw Maintenance, from the settings menu click clear cache and purge packages

Clearing cache is a good place to start and should fix most errors. If the problem persists, move onto the next fix.

Kodi URL Resolver is pivotal for most add ons to work. By converting fetched URL files into workable media files that can be played within the media player.

2. Name the file then go to unzip file, once unzipped install the add on

If the problem continues, but does not seem to occur in other add ons, then you may want to check the version you have installed using the following checklist:

• Does the error occur persistently or only when playing a specific file?
• Did you install the add on from its official source or a third-party website?
• Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the add on?
• Is the add on updated to the latest version?
• Is Kodi updated to the latest version? (You may also want to try downgrading Kodi to an older version if the problem has only recently started since a recent Kodi update)

If you check the error log and see 404 errors that means that the add on cannot communicate with the server and may have internal issues.

If you treat Kodi like an Operating System, then all the add ons built for that system, rely on certain files being present to function properly. From how the screen is laid out to how you navigate files and the Graphical User Interface (GUI)

Without the necessary dependencies, your add-on or build just won’t run.

 

 

Why Am I Getting a Dependency Kodi Error?

Getting a dependency error doesn’t tell you what dependency is missing, or whether it’s 1 or 10 that needs to be installed.

The addon or build installation wizard will scan your Kodi installation and have a checklist of files that it needs to run.

If the checklist shows any of these files to be missing, then you get the dependency Kodi error.

 

How to Fix It?

Luckily for once, the problem won’t be with the addon in question, unless it’s bleeding-edge brand new and the developer has made a mistake asking for a dependency that doesn’t exist. The problem will be with your installation of Kodi.

Kodi saves processing time by caching these items so they can be loaded quickly.

However, over time your cache fills up, becomes bloated, and starts to slow down the rest of your system.

Kodi by itself does not have a maintenance function to clear cache, you’ll need to install an addon like Looking Glass.

Alternatively, you can use Indigo, Ares Wizard, or Raw Maintenance.

Follow these steps for Looking Glass:

1. Starting from your Kodi home screen go to settings
2. Then File Manager, Add Source, and select Add None
3. In the URL pop up window enter the following URL: http://repo.lookingglass.rocks/
4. Name the file and then go to Add ons, and install from zip file
5. The file will unzip and then you can go back to Add ons and install Looking Glass
6. Then open the add on from the home screen, click settings, and then “clear cache”
7. Once the cache is cleared restart Kodi and see if the problem persists with your install

The clear cache will fix most errors, but if not keep working through the list.

 

Update Kodi

Potentially your addon may be optimized for a newer version of Kodi. Kodi tends to update every 2-3 months and has a major new version released once a year.

Install TV Add Ons Repository

Add ons can use over 100 dependencies, you can go through Kodi settings and manually update each dependency. But surely there must be an add on to that for you.

Luckily there is with the awesome TV Add Ons repository, not only do you get access to some great add ons which help with all kinds of Kodi problems, but you also get a nice big file of dependencies which many common Kodi add ons need and may be omitted in a regular Kodi install.

Get the add on using the following steps:

1. From the home screen go to settings, file manager, add source, and add none
2. Type in: http://fusion.tvaddons.co
3. Name the source Fusion
4. Go back a screen to Add ons
5. Open the little box at the top left of the menu, install Fusion from zip file
6. Choose Kodi-Repos from the install screen
7. English
8. Then repository.xbmchub.zip
9. Your dependencies have now been unzipped and installed

 

Restore Add Ons File

If your problem persists, then your base add ons file may be corrupted and need to be deleted.

This file is called Addons27.db. The good news is you don’t have to reinstall anything, as it opens a fresh file when you restart Kodi.

Get rid of the file by:

1. From the Kodi home screen go to Setting
2. Then go File Manage, profile Directory, Database
3. Scroll through until you find a file called Addons27.db and delete it
4. Relaunch Kodi

Finally, if all else fails, then you may just need to bite the bullet and do a fresh install.

Clearing cache varies by device. So, you can look further through Google to find your device settings, or just use the cleaning tools in Supreme Builds.

 

Find a Working Add On

Add ons have a short shelf life. Many will simply be abandoned by their developers and fall into disuse. If an add on is not maintained and updated, then over time streams will stop working.

• Update Kodi or Revert to an Older Version

Update Kodi

Updating Kodi depends on whether your device runs Windows, iOS, Android, Linux, or is part of the Amazon Fire Series. Search for the device-specific instructions on Google.

Downgrade Kodi

4. Select Yes when the box appears

 

5. Go back one step and click on File Manager.

 

6. Click Add Source

 

7. A box will pop up, so click on the ‘None’ option.

 

8. Now type in this URL http://fusion.tvaddons.co and click OK.

 

9. Name this URL as fusion and tap OK.

 

10. After that, go back to the system menu and select Add-ons.

 

11. Click Install from Zip File.

 

12. When the box pop-up, select fusion or any name you have given.

 

13. Select on the Kodi Repos.

 

14. Choose English.

 

15. Select repository.xbmchub-3.0.0.zip

 

16. Wait a few minutes for the addon to be installed. After that, an icon will appear at the top menu.

 

17. Tap the  Install from Repository.

 

18. Then select TVADDONS.CO Add-on Repository from the list.

 

19. Click on Video Add-ons.
