Customer Support

Customer support with ExpressVPN is available 24 hours a day through email only. The company provides a telephone number, but the client is instructed to leave their email address to have support follow up through that method. The telephone number is: +1-310-601-8492. It is interesting to note the 310 area code is in California. ExpressVPN itself is such a secretive company, it is even hard to find reference to many employees on Linkedin.

Support Address: [email protected]

Ample servers are provided for most users. The current tally has locations in 96 cities spread across 78 different countries. The reality is the average consumer is going to find a handful of servers that serve their needs well and stick to them. That said the global diversity allows Express to be the right service for more customers. Here are the cities in the United States with access:

Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, Chicago, New York, New Jersey, Washington DC, Miami, Dallas, Atlanta

Terms of Service

ExpressVPN starts their TOS in a fairly typical manner by banning users from using the service to do anything illegal. They are upfront in maintaining the right to terminate any accounts used to spam or distribute copyrighted material. In short, ExpressVPN is not a logical choice for those seeking protection while using torrents.

The VPN software can be used on multiple computers but only one computer at a time. Account sharing is specifically banned in the TOS.

ExpressVPN is a US company. As such they will comply with all US laws and turn over requested information in the case of a subpoena. They store information on the IP addresses connected to the service, times of the connection, and how much data is transferred. Private information on a user’s network habits is not commonly stored, although they have an interesting caveat. It basically says if you have been really bad and the government wants to eves drop on your emails, chats, VOIP calls, and websites visited, they have no choice but to comply. This last bit might sound scary. I tend to view it more realistically as honest.

Software is a strong suit of ExpressVPN. They offer connection software for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. Manual configurations are always an option if you use a different platform.

Security and privacy are the two main reasons people purchase personal VPN services. Expressvpn uses 256 bit encryption to protect their connections. This level of security is optimal for people who frequently use unsecured hotspots. I wouldn’t necessarily bet that it could keep the government out if they were determined. It does make me nervous that the only details we know about the company are that it is based in the United States. More transparency would add to our comfort level.

Payment Forms

All major credit cards and PayPal are accepted. Bitcoin is allowed along with a myriad of lesser payment services. Accepting Bitcoin is always a good sign that the company takes privacy seriously. Less personal information is usually required with Bitcoin payments. The less the company knows about you the less they can turn over if there is a problem.

ExpressVPN is expensive when compared to a service like Private Internet Access.

1 Month – $12.95

6 Months – $60

12 Months – $100

The good part is that the company offers a no questions asked 30 day money back guarantee if you run into any issues. At the end of a day, $100 isn’t much money to most people given the amount of protection such a service provides. We highly recommend taking advantage of the risk free offer to see if the service is right for you.

I think the ExpressVPN TOS are realistic as well. The tool is provided for protection against hackers and for privacy, not to hide from the law.
