TORVPN Pricing

One big plus point with TorVPN is its price. It’s ridiculously cheap.

There are There are 6 plans ranging from free to GoldVPN lasting for different lengths of time, and limited by the number of open sessions you can have at a time and the amount of data you use

Free VPN – £0 – Valid for 7 days, 1 open session, 2GB traffic

Cheap VPN – £0.50 – Valid for 15 days, 2 open sessions, 5GB traffic

Custom VPN – Price depends based upon the months of usage, servers and sessions as well as traffic

ProVPN – £1.90 per month, 2 servers, 2 sessions, 60GB traffic

Solver VPN – £5.50 for 3 months, All basic servers, 3 sessions and 100GB traffic

Gold VPN – £19.90 for 1 year, All basic servers, 4 open sessions and unlimited traffic

Now, on the face of it that is crazily cheap. But unlike any other top VPN provider there are limitations on servers you can access and data usage. Which screams small time operation.

Also, with the Free VPN, the service is not guaranteed i.e. if there is a high load on their servers then you will have to wait.

Not a great start.

Privacy /Anonymity

TorVPN really doesn’t put privacy at the top of their priorities and that is a big no no for us.

Your information is explicitly retained in the case that they do become subject to law enforcement investigation, and there is no clear idea of what that information is. For example, it could be your entire browsing and IP history.

Also, quite alarmingly, they retain all your details for business purposes, and would comply with any law or court order.

Kind of sinks the ship on having a cheap VPN, when your privacy is so explicitly disregarded.

Torrent Policy

There is no expressed mention of torrents or P2P file sharing on the TorVPN site, we have become familiar with this in countries that have strict jurisdiction over file sharing particularly in the US and the UK.

So, though there is nothing saying you can’t, it isn’t explicitly encouraged, and you would nee the GoldVPN package to give you unlimited data usage.

Does It Work Well With Kodi?

TorVPN is suitable to use with Kodi, but because of the data usage restrictions you may want to go for the GoldVPN plan as 2GB isn’t going to get you much streaming time.

Kodi is an all in one streaming service for your favourite tv shows, films and sports event and a great platform to access anything you missed, or the latest films out in the cinemas.

Streaming Netflix?

The VPN provider has one server in Miami which allows you to access US Netflix, but apart from that its pretty limited. They have 9 servers in 8 countries which is desperately low compared to other providers. So, US, UK and French Netflix yes. Other countries? Probably not.

Tor Compatibility

As you may have guessed from the name TorVPN uses Tor Nodes to connect with the internet as well as their own security proxies. So, for those who like to use The Onion it is a perfect fit.

GeoIP

TorVPN works just fine for circumventing GeoIP restrictions, but again no bells and whistles and the reduced number of servers you have access to limits what you can do.

Speed

We saw significant down ticks in speed with TorVPN, the server themselves were not especially resilient and we lost about 25% of our speed.

The other annoying thing were drops in service, because under a high load the company does not have many servers it can re-route its users to. Meaning at certain times you may struggle to connect or have a desperately slow service.

Security

TorVPN uses OpenVPN, and you can also access Tor Nodes which give an added layer of encryption. But honestly there is little mention or explanation about the security that they use.

What really alarmed us, and pretty killed any chance of us using TorVPN, was the fact that multiple users had reported DNS leaks. This is basic security protocol for any VPN provider, as every site you browse to will ping a DNS, meaning you may as well browse without a VPN for all the good that it’s doing.

Customer Support

The website said it provided live support, but we couldn’t even see an offline chat icon. There is an email in a contact form, but again basic and kind of expected considering how much you are paying.

Jurisdiction

The company is based in the UK and is therefore subject to the 14 eyes intelligence sharing agreement. Along with their privacy policy, this is not a VPN provider we would recommend for doing anything even hypothetically illegal.

Apps

TorVPN works on all major browsers and OS’s but has no mobile application.

Servers

11 servers in 9 countries

Final Thoughts

There are plenty of cheap and free VPN providers online. At first you could be fooled into looking at TorVPN’s pricing and think wow what a great deal.

Don’t be fooled. If its not the DNS leaks that will stop you in your tracks, then the woefully inadequate number of servers and terrible website should. Because this looks like a cash cow which has just been left to run in automatic mode from 10 years ago.

Couple that with the fact there is no information about the company, we can emphatically say that TorVPN is one to be avoided.
